What is private accident insurance?

Private accident insurance provides additional financial protection in the event of accidents during leisure time. It covers medical and rehabilitation costs and pays out the agreed sum in the event of permanent physical impairment (disability). In contrast, statutory accident insurance only pays out for accidents that occur in connection with work.

When is private accident insurance advisable?

According to the KFV accident statistics, there were 783,000 injuries in Austria in 2024. That is more than 2,100 injuries per day. Only around 14% of these accidents happened at work or school and are therefore covered by statutory insurance. The majority of accidents happen in the home (approx. 41%), followed by leisure and sports accidents (approx. 33%) and traffic accidents (approx. 12%). These accidents are not covered by statutory accident insurance.

Accidents caused by external influences: Drowning or suffocation, frostbite, burns, scalding, exposure to electric current or lightning strikes

The insurance cover in all selected private accident insurance packages is valid worldwide.

Does accident insurance for children or babies make sense?

During school holidays, leisure time and weekends, children are covered by statutory health insurance but not by accident insurance. This means that consequential damages resulting from accidents that occur at home, while playing with friends, during sports or on holiday are not covered. It is therefore advisable to take out accident insurance for children. With Allianz accident insurance, newborns are covered free of charge until they reach the age of 12 months.

What is the difference between accident insurance and occupational disability insurance?

Occupational disability insurance generally only pays out if you are unable to work as a result of an accident or illness. However, accident insurance pays out regardless of whether you are unable to work and provides benefits based on the degree of disability.

What is the difference between accident insurance and health insurance?
